Making A Difference

"The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Weight loss this week - 0 lbs.

Weight loss total - 43 lbs.

I had a huge wake up call this past Friday when a co-worker of mine decide to show me a picture of myself that was taken a year and 2 months ago. I told her to delete it as it was not a flattering picture of myself. She told me "NO!.. You should be proud of how far you've come. ". I just shook my head at her and said, "Please delete that picture of me. " She walked away after that. As the day wore on I did however think about what she said. If she didn't take that picture I wouldn't know how far I've come. It has been a long battle. Not the easiest but the most rewarding by far. I've had co-workers come up to me and tell me that they didn't realize I was that big....but I look so good now. It makes me smiling knowing that I'm going in the right direction.

Can you believe that only a year ago I was Type 2 diabetic who took insulin 3 times a day plus took 2 diabetic pills a day? My A1C was at an 8. That was bad. Now I only take 3 lower dose diabetic pills twice a day. NO INSULIN and my A1C is at 6.7. Almost close to normal. Everyday is a battle but it's a battle I'll take in order to live life and enjoy it more with my family.

Now to keep going is the hardest part. Time to get back into a normal routine of exercising.

Have you had a wake up call lately that made you proud of how far you've come?
Tell me about it. I'd love to hear it.

Have a great week!

It won't budge...

Weight loss this week - 0 lbs.
Weight loss total  - 44 lbs.

" Losing weight is hard...
Maintaining weight is hard...
 Staying overweight is hard."
 ~ Sparkpeople.com

This month has been a struggle for me. I haven't been losing any weight and I am the only one to blame. I haven't been working out since the chaos of life has taken hold of me. I keep telling myself that tmrw. i will workout. But tomorrow comes and I don't. Something either happens or gets in the way of me not doing my workout. Monday will be the start of getting back on track.
Though I am maintaining my weight I hate that I am not losing any.
So Monday will be the day I get back on track.

How are you doing with your weight loss goals? Have you ever just taken a step back and then full speed ahead?

That is my plan. I plan on losing the 4 more lbs. I need to lose to hit my goal. I want to be able to say that I hit it before 2013. So wish me luck. I have 3 weeks left to get there.

Hope everyone has a great week :)

Family Time..

Weight loss total - 44 lbs.

Haven't posted in a while. Quick update on life. Been super busy with work and helpling kids out with the daily every day life. No weight loss this week but I'm ok with that as I'm still keeping it steady.

The holidays are right around the corner. Thanksgiving is only 4 short days away. Is it just me or does it feel like this year flew by really fast.

To me holidays are times we spend together with family. These are the times to see one another and remember the good old times and remember the love ones that are no longer with us.
This is also the times we pack on back a few extra pounds. What is your strategy this year to stay ahead of the game? My strategy is to just keep portion control and work out at least 20 minutes a day.

I hope everyone has a good and safe thanksgiving holiday.

Happy Monday eveyone! It's almost Halloween! Are you all excited.. I sure am. I love to dress up and put makeup on and scare people or try to anyway. It's my creative side that comes out. What will you be this year for Halloween

Did everyone have a good weekend? I sure did we. We carved our pumpkins out  this weekend. I think it turned out pretty cool. (see below)

I did the one on the right along with my son. Free hand style if I say so myself. Coco-bean's is in the middle and the one on the left is their Auntie J's.

This weekend I stepped on the scale and to my surprise it read 124.6. That means that i'm only 4.6 away from my goal. Slowly but surely I'll get there. How are you doing with your weightloss? It's getting cold, any plans on working out when the weather it's as nice out. Share your ideas. I need new ones to keep me busy.

Today also starts the beginning of a new 2 week challenge. This one is pretty special though. We are teaming up with Bob Harper. Very excited to start and see the end results. Till next time. Have a great week!

The season has changed to fall and the weather is getting colder. Though the image of fall is pretty I hate knowing that winter will be here soon. Living in the state of Illinois requires having a thick skin for the cold weather. For someone who was raised in the tropical islands (Hawaii), I never did grown that thick skin for cold. I hate the winter. Love looking at it but HATE driving in it or being outdoors in it. This is the season though,  to make sure that we workout and not slack off. You know what they say as the holidays getting closer. The pounds start to pack back on. Keep focus and stay on track. That's what I'm planning on doing. What are you planning on doing to stay motivated. Hope everyone has a great week :)

Have you ever in the position where you're doing so good and then you hit that bump. Well I have been on that bump for about a month now. I have no idea how to get off of it so I decided to get back to the basics. I'm going to start counting calories again and working out 3-4 times a week.More water intake and  I hope this will kick start my body into losing weight again and final hit my goal.

How is everyone doing this week? Can you believe it is October already? The weather is getting colder outside. What are you're plans to stay active this winter?

Have a great week. :)

Tiny...

“The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure.” – Sven Goran Eriksson

Weight loss this week - 2 lbs.
Weight loss total = 40 lbs.

This past weekend my uncle celebrated his 65th birthday. Seeing family members that I haven't seen in almost a year was nice. A bunch of them who live in the city of Chicago are the ones I only see a few times a year. I live in the suburbs. Having them tell me that I've changed so much since the last time they saw me made me feel accomplished.

My change made a difference and it shows. Do you know how great that feels. Having my family members tell them they were proud of me and how far I've come made me happy. But then most of them would do the usual line.. "Tell me your secret.. I wish I could do what you've done." I always answer with the same line.. "You can do it too." They always walk away shaking their head saying they can't, It's not that easy.

Funny how that was me a year ago. I always would complain of how I needed to change and lose weight. Then my wake up call came knocking. My cousin passed away. Dying at the age of 37 and leaving a wife and daughter behind is not where I want to be too. I didn't want to leave my husband and two children behind. So I took my first step. With the help of my lifelong best friend Shannon, I joined the mamavation community.

August 2011

September 2012

With this community they have been with me through my ups and my downs of losing weight and changing for the better. I went from 168 lbs. to 128 lbs. in a year. I went from using insulin shots three times a day to take a diabetic pill twice a day. What a difference a year can make. So when someone tells me that they can't do it I always say yes you can. You just have to take that first step. My first step was frightening but I did it. I can still remember doing my first 2 week challenge and having finished doing the first week of workouts I thought I died. Those jump squats, lunges, and burpees nearly killed me. But every day after that was so much easier. So you see looking back makes me realize how far I've come.

So when someone tells you you're getting so tiny, you're looking so good, keep it up. That's the motivation you need to keep going and also know that you're doing something right.

I hope everyone has a great week. Happy Monday everyone :)

Feeling Defeated...

"Being defeated is only a temporary condition.
Giving Up is what makes it permanent!"
~ Marilyn Von Savant

Weight loss this week - 0 lbs.
Weight loss total -  38 lbs.

A couple of weeks ago I was so close to my goal. My goal weight is 120 lbs. I was at 126.8 lbs. So close. I am now back to 130 lbs. A few back steps to say the least. I am not one happy camper. I feel so close yet so defeated. They do say the closer you are to your goal the harder it gets to achieve it. I am at that point.
I've already kicked up my workout a notch, but now I really have to buckle down and real watch what we eat. Yes I'll admit it I did side step and I'm regret doing it. That extra ice cream bar or that extra serving of mostacholi is now making me pay dearly.

What do you do when you feel defeated? I could really use some ideas on how to shed the last 10 lbs that I need. I hope everyone has a great week this week. I will leave comment love tonight.

Happy Monday everyone! The summer is almost over. How many of you have allergies? If you do have them are you in the same situation I am in. Miserable? I am so miserable today with my allergies that all I want to do so sleep and not be bothered. Eyes are itching and I am not feeling well. Even though I would just love to lay in bed all day today, I got up and am now writing my blog and in a few I will be working at starting the 2 week challenge workout again. My goal is so close away that I hope with the 2 week challenge I will reach it sooner than later. I hope everyone has a great week this week. See you all next week. :)

That Little Black Dress...

Weight loss this week - 0
Weight loss total - 39 lbs.

"The content of your thoughts and personal beliefs
can be proven by a single indicator – your current results."  James A. Ray

Have any of you ever saved a dress that you have and hope that one day you'll fit into again? You know kind of like a motivator. Some use a bikini as their goal to look good in it by next summer. Well my weight loss motivator has always been a little black dress. Not just any dress. A dress I wore 13 years ago before I had 2 kids. It was always in the back of my closet and I always hoping that one day I will into it again. This past weekend was the day to "clean" out my closet. Donate clothes that are too "BIG" more me now. While rummaging through them I come across my llittle black dress. I was about to put it into the back and give up my dream of wearing it again but decieded to give it one last shot. You know the feeling when you put something on and it doesn't fit and you just feel defeated? Well that was the feeling I didn't want to feel. I waited and held my breathe as I zipped that zipper up. And Guess What?? It zipped all the way up. It FIT!! PERFECTLY.. I fit in my little black dress I once wore 13 years ago. Back in the closet it went for me to put it to good use one day. That just made my weekend. I hope everyone has a great weekend. How was your weekend.

I hope to everyone that is attending Fitcation12 that you all have a great time and be sure to take lots of pics. Wish I was going. Jealous and happy for everyone that is though. Have a great week!!!

“By changing nothing, nothing changes.” -Tony Robbins

Looking back at pictures makes you realize how far you have come. About a year ago to this day the picture on the left was taken at my company picnic at a baseball game. I weighed 168 lbs. and it shows. The picture on the right was taken today at my company picnic weighing 129 lbs. and that shows. After all the hard work and determination not to get back to where I was before I am glad to say that I can now say how far I have come and have yet to achieve. To this day I only have 9 more lbs. to go to final reach my goal weight and to be in the "normal" BMI range for my height. As 4ft. 11 inches the normal range is 18.5–24.9. I am still in the "overweight" range. But soon slow and surely I will get there. Have you taken a glance back and seen how far you've come a year before now?? It's just surprising and satisfying to see the difference a year makes. I have alot of people in my life to thank you for help me along the way and give me encouragement but especailly thankful for the mamavation sisterhood. Without this community I wouldn't be were I am today. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there every step of the way. I love you all! Hope everyone has a great week!

Goal for this week ~ To get back into the swing of things. Excercise at least 3 days this week.

What's your goal this week on excercising? Have you slacked off like I have? Pick yourself back up and get working. :)

Happy Monday everyone! Hope everyone is having a great start to the week so far. I've been really M.I.A. lately and i do apologize for that. Been busy with work and school and life. Of course that 's no excuse. Honestly I haven't been working out as much lately. Lot's of walking and staying active but not alot of workouts. Have to get back on track. Anyhoo... the good news though is that i have maintained my weight and i even lost 2 lbs. this week. Total if 39 lbs. to date. Only 9 more lbs. till i reach my goal weight. Slowly but surely I'll get there.  I can't believe I've come this far and I have Mamavation to thank for. So thank you Mamavation and all my sistas out there for all the love, support, and encouragement. I am so appreciative.

How has everyone else doing this week. Drop me and line and let me know. Would love to hear from everyone else. Much Love and have a great week!

"When the world says GIVE UP!

TRY IT ONE MORE TIME. " ~ unknown

These past few weeks I feel like my life is so unbalanced. On top of working and going to school i feel like I am being pulled in so many directions that I feel like I'm going to scream. By the time the weekend rolls around all I want to do is relax on my couch and catch up on my zzz's. Anyone else feel this way? Am I the only one? How do you find balance in your life? I felt like I was balanced and doing well until I got my promotion. Instead of being on top of everything I feel like I've fallen behind 10 steps. I have no idea how to get back on top. I don't know where this negativity comes from lately. Ugh... So frustrated. I feel like having this new promotion at work is making me more stressed, crabby, and just plain tired. I will eventually have to find my balance sometime.

On a good note.. I did start the new work out Insanity! It was freaking awesome and I am loving it. I am also hurting from it but that's a good thing. I am hoping to keep it up to have at least one thing balanced on my plate.

How is everyone's summer going? I'm sorry I've been a little M.I.A. lately but work, school, kids, and hubby all consume my life lately. Once I get my balancing act together I will be more sociable. Thank you all for taking the time to read my post. Have a great week this week.

Summer Heat

"If you don't have confidence, you'll always find a way not to win."
- Carl Lewis

Weight loss this week - 1 lb.
Weight loss total - 37 lbs.

The summer heat is brutal this year. How many of you people know what I'm taking about? Living in Illinois is tough during the summer. Not only does it get scorching HOT it gets freaking humid too. So what do you do about excercising while it's HOT out. 4 important things to remember while excercising outside.

1. Sunscreen is a must.  It's important to protect your skin. You can get burned and suffer sun damage to your skin even on cloudy days. Use anything SPF 45 and up.

2. WATER! WATER! WATER!  Stay hydrated. Before you go out, drink a glass or two of water. Carry a bottle of water. When you're done with your workout, have a few more glasses of water.

3. Wear loose, light-colored. The lighter color will help reflect heat, and cotton material will help the evaporation of sweat.

4. The time of day is important. Unless you are training for an event that takes place in the daytime heat, avoid exercising from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It's the hottest part of day. Usually, the early morning is the best time to workout, especially if it's going to be HOT that day.

What are your summer plans? Can you believe it's July already. Have a great week everyone!

Weight loss total - 36 lbs

Happy Monday Everyone! I am back to reality. I have been on vacation and this past week has been playing catch up. While on vacation in Jamaica I only gained 1.5 lbs. :) I've already lost that weight and a little more this week. So I am back to my pre-vacation weight. woohoo!!! Totally thought i would gain lots of weight while away but I stayed on course. Ate three meals a day and had one small dessert at every meal. while I was on vacation.. They had a gym there to use but I didn't even step foot in it. But we did walk around alot in the resort so that makes up for it and lots of swimming. Well I hope everyone has a great week.

Goal to a smaller ME...

"Nothing will work unless you do."
- John Wooden

Weight loss this week - 3 lbs.
Weight loss total - 36 lbs.

Happy Monday everyone!!! Can you believe it's already June! I surely can't. This week will be a hectic week for me. We leave for Jamaica on Sunday!! Lots to do. This past weekend has been a good week for me. I lost 3 lbs. and have gone down 9 sizes since starting Mamavation. 9 freaking sizes. Can you believe it? I surely can't. We visited my in-laws this weekend and my new MIL asked if i was ready for vacation. My answer was NO. She asked if i had enough shorts for vacation and i replied i have a couple. She asked if i wanted to try some of her shorts. I asked her if they were size 7. Those were the size i could fit into. She said, "No.. there a size 5." I thought well i could try and if it doesn't fit at least i know. So off i went to try on some of her shorts. I put on the first pair and guess what! They fit. I was in total shock and had to rush and show her. A size 5 can you believe it!! I couldn't. Tried on another pair and those fit too. There were a few that fit but didn't felt comfortable. Different brands different size feelings. So i ended borrowing 3 shorts and a cute dress. Can't wait for Sunday to get here :)!!

Do you have something to look forward to this summer? Do you have a goal that you're trying to achieve? If so how are you doing. Hope everyone has a great week. See you all in 2 weeks with pictures to show.

The Swimsuit TEST

" Fear is what stops you... courage is what keeps you going."
 -Unknown

I'm back... Haven't blog since last week but I've been around listening but quiet. I hope everyone had a great weekend. This weekend was the weekend my family decided it was time to go swimsuit shopping. Before you know it our vacation time will be here. Kids were easy to shop for and so was my hubby. I on the other hand dreaded it. First I was slightly excited since I've lost a good 32 lbs. all together since being in this community. I've gained back a pound since last week. :( .. Back to my swimsuit shopping. I wanted to look for a one piece. Wasn't ready for a two piece yet. My abs are not were i want them to be. Though I have been working on them. I grab a size Medium. It said it was a size 8/9. I figured I would fit it. I'm a size 7/8. No sweat. I cried when I put them on. Not happy tears but upset tears. It didn't fit... I had to have my husband grab the next size up. A Large 10/11. It fit. I felt like I've gone back 2 steps. I was so upset. Though my husband kept assuring me that it was fine. I didn't feel fine. He says it's because I have big boobs.  I know I've made progress and I've gone down in sizes just shopping for swimsuit makes it depressing. Has anyone else have this problem or am the only one??

My next step is not dwelling on it too much and I'm going to keep exercising and keep doing my steps. Hopefully by the time I leave for vacation my swimsuit will be a little loose. Hope everyone has a great week!

Also don't forget to join us on  Mamavation TV Monday night 7pm PST/10pm EST with Special guest Shelia Cluff. Please continue to support our Mamavation Moms Wendy’s (@WeightsOver) and Hanan (@LilacCityMomma). They are doing FANTASTIC!!! Welcome back Kat (@casadirosati).

Missed Steps...

"If you are going through hell, keep going.” ― Winston Churchill

Weight loss this week : 0 lbs.
Weight loss total: 33 lbs.

This past week has been a roller coaster. On top of school, work and every day life I feel like I've missed a step some where. I feel like I've lost my footing and I can't get to seem to get back on track. I feel like everytime I take a step I keep slipping. Just like the picture of the water falling on the steps. I can't seem to get my footing back to get back on top. And it just plain PISSES ME OFF!!

I have been sick this past week with strep so that completely through me off my workout schedule. Still recovering from it but I feel worn out. I've just finished my last day for my english class and in a week I will be doing another psychology class. Though I love psychology I feel a little overwhelmed with everything. I feel like I can't seem to catch my breath. Always on the go. Have you ever felt that way? Always on the go and can't seem to fit anything in? I need to get back on track on my workout schedule.

I did start off today on a good note. I did work out. I did my hip hop abs dvd and it felt good to workout .

I do have some good news. We've booked our Jamaica trip! So around this time next month I will be on a beach in Jamaica with the hubby and the kiddos. Guess it's one incentive to keep on going in getting back on track. Have to get bathing suit ready. :)

I haven't gain any weight this week or loss any. I've hit a plateau again.. Not losing any weight and not gaining is irritating all at the same time. I am glad that this monday's mamavation tv is about that interesting topic. I can't wait because I need some advice on getting off this plateau and get moving.

Congratulations to the new mamvation mom's!! I couldn't be at the twitter party due to having strep but I did hear about it later. Congratulation ladies!!  Wendy @Weightisover and Hanan (@LilacCityMomma) I can't waiting to see where this journey takes both of you.

So don't forget to join us for mamavation tv.  Monday night at 7pm PST/10pm EST on Mingle Media TV.

Family Time

"Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind. Or forgotten. "
~ Lilo (Lilo & Stitch)

Weight loss this week - 0 lbs.
Weight loss total - 33 lbs.

These past few weeks has been very stressful. On top of school and a new promotion I sometimes get side track and neglect my family. My "Ohana". With that in mind my DH decided on the spur of the moment (sometimes those are the best) to spend some quality family time together. We brought the kids to the zoo. Though it was chilly out we still had a good time. It was nice to be able to relax with the kids and not have a worry in the world. To my surprise the kids got along well. Brother and sisters often fight. Everyone can agree with that. LOL... Have you neglected your family recently? If you have what are you going to do to make quality time together?

This week my goal is to get 3 workouts done. I succeeded last week with working out 4 times. More walking time during the week with my kids. Love this Chicago weather. Not hot and not cold. Just right with a little bit of breeze. Now if i could just hear the ocean waves crashing it would make me feel more at home. Hope everyone has a great week!!!

Good luck to all the ladies that applied to be a mamavation mom for this campaign. I'll be rooting for all of you! You all rock in my book!!

Happy Monday everyone!!!  Here is my mamavation Monday post. This week is the start of another stressful week. With school as usual and my daily routine I have a promotion to add on to it for work. My promotion is a good thing don't get me wrong but the training that goes along with it has me so confused in so many ways. I hope that I will be a pro at it soon. On top of all this I feel that i am even more stressed out since I have not workout in over a week now. This past week I have slacked off big time. I don't know if it's from being too busy or just plain stressed out, but I need to get back on track. I am planning on working out 4 days this. My goals are pretty simple. 10k steps daily. workout 4 days this week and make sure i drink plenty of water.

Monday: Zumba Workout
Tuesday: rest day
Wednesday: Hip Hop Ab's workout
Thursday: Zumba Workout and 2 mile walk/run
Friday: rest day
Saturday: 2 mile walk/run
Sunday: rest day

I hope everyone has a great week this week. How has your week been? Anything new?

I'm Only Human...

"It doesn't matter if you've failed. If you've been beaten. All that really matters is if you get back up and try again. Because winning is fun, but winning when nobody thought you would, is just awesome!" ~ Unknown

Weight loss this week  - 1 lb.
Weight loss total - 33 lbs.

HAPPY MONDAY!! I hope everyone had a great Easter. I did.. but i slipped. All i can say is I'm only human and I will get back on track. I weighed myself on Sunday and i was so excited that i lost another lb. Yea! :) So what did i do.. I slipped. It was Easter and of course when you visit families and they have all that good bad food laying around. You have to try them. One of my weaknesses is dessert. There was this awesome banana cream pie that my father-in-laws wife made and it was to die for. literally!!

So as we all know when you give in to that craving.. you so regret it the next day. Oh and boy do i ever. I feel like i failed in so many ways. I know I've gained some weight from eating like a PIG... though i didn't eat everything in sight. I ate more that i normally do and now I am feeling it. So now that I've fallen i will get back up and try again. Started the day off with strawberry dannon light & fit yogurt and a bowl of chocolate special k cereal. Going to do some workout tonight after work and I'm gonna get back on track.
I hope everyone has a great week this week.

Overcome...

"Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness."
– Edward Stanley

Weight loss this week: 3.2 lbs
Weight loss total - 32.2 lbs!!!

This past week i have been sick. With that being said i did manage to keep doing the 2 week challenge. Though i struggled with breathing while doing it i did manage to finish it. Yeah!! :) I've lost 3.2 lbs since being sick. Guess that 's one of the perks of being sick. I've hit my 30 lbs. weight loss goal. yah me!!! Other than that not much to report. Still getting over being sick and hoping this week is a better one. I hope everyone has a great week.

 This week's mamavation post is:

What is one health lesson you want to teach your kids?

I want to teach my kids that exercising does not have to be a chore or a necessity in life. You do it anyone through out the day. You skip, you dance, you run around. As long as you're active that's all that matters. I want them to be able to eat what they want but with good judgement. I don't want them to be eating McDonald's everyday junk food for the matter but I want them to know it's OK to have an ice cream sundae once in a great while. Moderation and Excercising is the key.

Allergies Suck!

"Do what you feel in your heart is right..for you'll be criticized anyway." ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

Weight loss this week: 0 lbs.
Weight loss Total: 29 lbs.

This past week has not been a great week for me. Many of you know i vented a little on facebook last week about a co-worker of mine doing a diet. Not any diet. It's call HCG diet drop. What is HCG? HCG drops are homeopathic drops that help curbing your appetite. They naturally boosts metabolism in your body that consequently burns fat. They say to take two drops daily to losing at least 21 pounds in 21 days. People begin with high calorie diet for two days before taking HCG drops and then they should maintain a low calorie diet plan for losing weight effectively. No exercising is recommended. Wow.. co-worker lost 19 lbs in 2 weeks. First thought was.. B**CH how now nice to lose all that without exercising. I was upset just a little bit. For she lost about the same weight i did without all my hard work. Then after awhile and a few encouraging words from friends I know that she'll probably gain it back after a while and I'm okay with that. I'm happy she lost it but i also know that doing it the unhealthy way is not good. So that being said I am still maintaining my 29 lbs. loss and hoping to see my scale move downward some more. I feel like i keep hitting these plateaus. On top of all that I have been battling a bad case of seasonal allergies. If anyone who has allergies know it sucks. I've taken Zyrtec and just switch to Claritin-D. I'm hoping that will work.In the meantime I will just have to look like a puffer fish.

On a much happier note i bit the bullet and bought the Zumba for Wii. I hope i love it as much as everyone says it's great. Will report next week how i did. It's coming in the mail on Tuesday and can't wait. Now off to this week's mamavation question:

What is your #1 challenge when it comes to workouts?

My number one challenge is to stay hydrated while working out. I tend to forget to keep drinking while I'm in the middle of my workout. I just keep going and going and i don't stop till I'm done. By then I'm thirsty as hell. Anyone else have that problem?

Have a great week everyone! Happy Monday!

Feeling Accomplished...

"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will."
~ Vincent T. Lombardi

For many of you who know me, know that i have type 2 diabetes. What is type 2 diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use glucose for energy. When you eat food, the body breaks down all of the sugars and starches into glucose, which is the basic fuel for the cells in the body. Insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells. When glucose builds up in the blood instead of going into cells, it can lead to diabetes complications.

I have been a diabetic since after the birth of my son. I did take care of it for a while then I just basically got fed up with it and got lazy. So i went off of it. Then I had an incident that left me in ICU of 2 weeks that made me realize how important it was for me to take care of myself to be there for my children as they grow up. Long story short I got back on track and started using insulin and pills to keep it under control. Though I do have great news now.. I am officially off insulin.. Yep.. you heard right i don't have to take any insulin shots anymore. My doctor has decided that I can just take metformin pills to keep my blood sugars on track. I am jumping for joy. Though that doesn't mean I can relax in watching what i eat or slack off on my exercising, it literally means i have to be on top of my game now. I have to be more strict in watching what i eat and keep on exercising. With another 2 week challenge starting today, I am excited to say that will keep me on track. This weeks mamavation question...

How do you keep yourself active, when you really don’t feel like working out ?

I take a walk around the block or if I don't feel like walking around that block I do sit ups and crunches in my living room. Makes me feels better knowing I did do something than just be a couch potato.

I hope everyone has a great week!
